SAN JOSE (CBS SF) — Police in San Jose confirmed that they took a female suspect into custody as they were investigating an officer-involved shooting Monday afternoon.
A police spokesman said that the officer-involved shooting happened at around 3 p.m. on the 800 block of Feller Avenue in San Jose and that the female suspect was in possession of a shotgun.
The condition of the person who was shot was not released publicly Monday evening and the circumstances that led up to the shooting remain under investigation.
Video shot by Chopper 5 showed over a dozen police units including two heavily armored tactical vehicles at the scene.
Authorities appeared to be going door-to-door with guns drawn to at least two homes in the area, kicking in a wooden gate at one home.
At a second home, the heavily armed officers with guns drawn were met by a woman who appeared to have blood on her hands and on the red t-shirt she was wearing.
She was walked away from a home and taken to a waiting ambulance.
Police later confirmed that a suspect was in custody and had been taken to an area hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries. Police said no one else was injured and no other suspects are outstanding.
Police dispatch recordings that were public described some of the drama.
In the audio, a dispatcher is heard saying the woman has a shotgun and is threatening to shoot police if they come to the door. The dispatcher also says the woman has a history of mental illness and is on several medications and may be off her medications.
The dispatcher also quotes the reporting party saying that the woman thinks there is “a demon in her bathroom.”
